Corrosion protection and primer

Coating material according to DIN 55 945. Solvent-based 2-component epoxy resin adhesion promoter for non-absorbent, rigid substrates with active zinc phosphate pigments. Lead- and chromate-free.

Application: Outdoor and indoor.

Corrosion protection and primer for iron, steel, galvanized steel, zinc sheets, electrolytic galvanization, non-ferrous metals, melamine resin-coated panels, stove enamels, glass fiber reinforced polyester, Glasal, Resopal, and ceramic tiles. (For more detailed information, please refer to the manufacturer's data sheets.)

Epoxy primer and hardener

Characteristics:

  • Excellent adhesion
  • Quick drying
  • Universally paintable
  • Frosted
  • With active corrosion protection for iron, steel and galvanized surfaces
  • Can be overcoated with almost all 1K and 2K topcoats

Pack size:

  • 2.5 kg base, 0.5 kg hardener
  • 600 g base, 120 g hardener

Processing of epoxy primer + hardener

Material preparation: Add hardener to the base material only in the specified mixing ratio. The necessary intensive mixing is best achieved with a slow-speed stirrer (max. 400 rpm). The pot life begins immediately after mixing. Do not mix freshly mixed material with residual material. Mixing ratio: Base material: Hardener 5:1. Application: Brush, roll, and spray. Pot life: at 20 °C, approx. 8 hours.

Substrate: The substrate must be sound, free of dirt and separating substances, and dry. Remove loose coatings. Clean and sand old, firmly adhering coatings thoroughly. Filled surfaces must be thoroughly dry. Observe VOB, Part C, DIN 18 363, Paragraph 3.

Iron and steel (heavy corrosion protection): Blasting to standard cleanliness level Sa 2.5 according to VOB DIN 12 944. Iron and steel: Under normal conditions, thorough derusting and removal of mill scale and scale is necessary. Zinc and hot-dip galvanized sheets: Ammoniacal wetting agent washing using a plastic fleece. Preparation and cleaning according to BFS Data Sheet No. 5. In special cases, sweeping may be necessary. Steel wool must never be used for sanding. Old zinc and galvanized surfaces: Grind off white rust (basic zinc carbonate). Aluminum: Degrease with nitrocellulose thinner and sand with a plastic fleece. Preparation and cleaning according to BFS Data Sheet No. 6.

Anodized aluminum: Clean, degrease, and sand to a matte finish. For reliable adhesion, apply two primer coats of 120 g/m² each. A test coat should be applied beforehand, and adhesion should be tested using a cross-cut pattern in accordance with DIN EN 2409.

Recoating: Can be recoated with all commercially available two-component enamels, synthetic resin enamels, plastic paints, and acrylic paints. Otherwise, thorough sanding is required. A top coat can be applied within 12–36 hours of applying the primer without intermediate sanding.

Cleaning of tools: Before and after use, carefully with MEGA 902 Universal Thinner.

Consumption: Approx. 120 g/m² per coat on flat surfaces. Determine exact consumption based on the object.

Drying: At 20°C and 60% relative humidity: Dust-dry: after approx. 30 minutes. Surface dry: after approx. 6 hours. Recoatable: after approx. 12-14 hours.

Airless spraying: Viscosity: Original, adjust only as needed. Nozzle: 0.011 - 0.013 inch = 0.279 - 0.33 mm. Spray angle: up to 50° depending on the substrate. Pressure: approx. 160 bar.

High-pressure spraying: Viscosity: 30 - 35 sec./4 mm DIN cup Nozzle: 1.5 mm - 1.8 mm Pressure: approx. 3 bar

General information

Processing temperature: Do not drop below +8 °C. Pay attention to dew and the temperature of the substrate. Low temperatures and/or high humidity will delay drying.

Special notes:

There is no discernible end to the pot life. Exceeding this limit will result in loss of adhesion. Changing temperatures will shorten or extend the pot life.

Storage: In the closed original container, stored in a dry, cool and frost-free place for at least 12 months.

Composition according to VDL guidelines: epoxy resin, polyamide resin, colored pigments, anti-corrosive pigments, fillers, aromatics, esters, additives

Disposal instructions: Dispose of contents/container in accordance with local/regional/national/international regulations. Only empty containers should be recycled. Dispose of containers with residues at the applicable collection point for old paint.

Protective measures: Observe the safety data sheet and information sheet (processing of epoxy resins) of the Chemical Employers' Association!
